Lorraine was living in the far north of Western Australia when her husband of over 30 years, was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Far removed from family members and friends and with no cancer councils or palliative care organizations to support her, Lorraine was determined to ease her husband’s suffering.

Through the internet, she sourced information about her husband’s cancer and of the symptoms he would experience as it progressed.   She then sought knowledge on pain and how it could be brought under control. Shortly after, she put into place, a pain management and symptom control routine that was to dramatically improve the quality of her husband’s life. 

Finding strength in the knowledge that she ‘made a difference’, Lorraine decided to share her story in the hope of bringing inspiration and strength to others.

In 2004 – Lorraine published her first book ‘Lean on Me’ Cancer through a Carer’s eyes.  An inspirational true account of her husband Brian’s courageous battle with mesothelioma (asbestos related cancer); the methods she used to control his pain, and through the inclusion of diary entries and poems, her emotional journey as she cared for him and came to accept the inevitability of his death.

 ‘Lean on Me’ has gained global recognition and is highly acclaimed by cancer councils and palliative care organizations around the world, as well as being on the recommended reading list of several medical universities. 

In 2006 Lorraine published a book of poetry titled ‘Tear Drops’ A Journey of Grief, Healing and Hope and is currently working on her CD for Carer’s.

Lorraine remains passionate in her wish to help others and welcomes the opportunity to share her journey and the knowledge she has gained through her speaking services.
